When staff at the BC Legislative Library wished to discover how people were using the Library web site, they turned to BrainWave's Pam Blackstone for help.
Library management believed that the trend toward digitization would ultimately impact the jobs of everyone who works there and wished staff to have a better understanding of how to communicate effectively in this electronic medium. They also wanted to know more about how people were using the Library web site, so they retained Pam Blackstone to deliver a series of web usability courses , customized to achieve these objectives.

As part of the course content, Pam designed a group activity that oriented staff to the Library site and collected the kind of feedback about user behaviour that Library staff needed to make the site better. Fast and easy to implement, this informal process lacked the rigour of a true user test, but nevertheless returned some very valuable data.

Library management received the kind of information they needed and
were able to identify the actions necessary to improve the site.
An unanticipated bonus was the effect on participants. Some commented
that they would never look at the Web the same way again. Others observed
that they would be more critical consumers of Web-based information.
Most felt better equipped to navigate effectively and believed the
experience would help them do their jobs better.
