When staff at a BC Government Ministry recognized that they had a usability problem, they called on BrainWave's Pam Blackstone to re-write and improve the materials.
Staff at the Ministry recognized that they had a usability problem with the orientation and help pages for a popular online registry search tool. Navigation was not intuitive; content was lengthy, poorly written, and badly formatted for onscreen presentation; and the screen shots were too small to be useful and not expandable.

Working within very tight deadlines, Pam identified the revisions required to enhance the efficacy of these pages and bring them into conformity with current Web usability standards and practices. Her recommendations were summarized in a seven-page report, with necessary global changes and individual document revisions clearly identified. Upon Ministry sign-off on these recommendations, Pam completed the changes required.

The communication goals of the individual documents were clarified and their contents better aligned with those goals. Content was edited for grammar, style, conciseness, and redundancy. As a result, it is significantly shorter, tighter, and easier to read. Documents were re-organized and enhanced with tables of contents and other navigation aids. Key points buried in paragraphs were extracted and highlighted as bullets.
The client is delighted with the result.
